Acupuncture is one aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a technique involving ultra-thin needles in specific acu-points that correspond to the patient’s particular ailment. The acu-points are personalized during each treatment for the patient. Many patients share that it is very relaxing and the needles are often not felt upon insertion or removal. Acupuncture and TCM help to restore the beneficial flow of Qi and balance of the body.
What is Qi?
Practitioners of TCM believed that Qi flows within all living things. It is the ‘life force’ or ‘life energy'. Qi flows through the body by means of energy meridians/pathways. When there is an imbalance within the body, the Qi becomes blocked and unable to move smoothly throughout the body. Acupuncture and TCM help to restore this balance.
What is Moxibustion?
Moxibustion, referred to as Moxa, is often combined with acupuncture. Moxa is made of a dried form of the Chinese herb called Mugwort. The method of moxa is used to apply warmth and heat to the acupuncture points by burning a small amount of the herb near the appropriate acu-point. Moxa is an important part of TCM in order to promote the body's ability to heal itself.
Is Acupuncture and Moxibustion safe?
Yes, when provided by a well-trained and Licensed Acupuncturist. Acupuncture, Moxibustion, as well as other TCM therapies are considered safe.
